HISTORY OF INFANT MASSAGE

Baby massage has a rich history that dates back to Eastern cultures, where it was a cherished practice among mothers. In countries like India, Fiji, and Tibet, mothers used daily therapeutic massage to promote their babies' health and well-being, passing this tradition down through generations. As awareness its benefits grew, baby massage began to spread to Western cultures, leading to numerous research studies that highlight its positive effects. Today, this ancient practice is increasingly embraced by parents around the world, celebrating the bond it fosters between caregiver and child.

INFANT MASSAGE STUDIES

Extensive research has revealed the numerous health benefits associated with infant massage. A study from Imperial College London indicates that mothers dealing with postnatal depression who massaged their infants had significantly lower depression levels than those who refrained from this practice. Additionally, studies have found that fathers who engaged in massage with their babies experienced enhanced feelings of competence, increased sensitivity, and a stronger attachment to their child. Furthermore, preterm infants who received massage therapy showed improved weight gain and greater alertness, along with extended wakefulness compared to those who did not undergo massage.
